Cumbre Vieja was painted while the volcano was erupting in La Palma, Canary Islands in 2021. I love the raw wrath of nature in all its glorious ferocity and I couldn’t help but be drawn to the incredible drone footage used in news reports and so I employed my usual technique of taking photos of the tv to capture them.
What draws me in is the unstoppable strength and relentlessness and how it puts everything in perspective. And while it is devastating it has an incredible beauty which I couldn’t resist.
Painted in oil on a braced wooden panel with neatly finished edges, ready to hang.
