Dark Corner First Snow
oil on canvas
60 x 90 x 4 cm
Dark Corner First Snow was painted during the lockdown of January 2021 when we had a magnificent snowfall. As you can tell I love the snow anyway but at this dark time I found it even more magical as it drew everyone out of their houses to go and explore, experience and play.
Dark corner refers to the entrance to the woods near my house which is surrounded by thick dark fir trees and as we started off on our night walk in the first layer of snow I took a picture which was the beginning of this painting. I used lots of ultramarine in layers over a tonal painting, adding snowflakes and painting them out as I worked through it.
Painted on a deep edged canvas with neatly painted ultramarine edges, ready to hang.
