Land of the Palm
Oil on canvas
50 x 75 cm
Land of the Palms is the translation of Kerala a southern tropical region of India. As expected palm trees are everywhere and are now protected in this state.
I painted this 2 years after visiting India from memory- I remember clearly approaching this lady’s home and her making coir rope on the shore. She made me the most beautiful cup of spiced tea. Her home was flanked by enormous palms all catching the light and shading her from the hot sun and I wanted to show their size and beauty in this painting. I chose a warm palette and used quite defined linear strokes, blending the reflections into a watery blur.
Painted on a standard canvas with neatly panted edges, ready to hang.
