Oil on paper, framed.
Framed measurements 42 x 57 cm
Studio VIII is one of a series of oil painting on paper, made in 2016. I wanted to produce figure paintings freely, quickly and decided to paint on paper as this felt less precious. As it happened I really enjoyed the freedom and I embraced the feel of the paper under the brush and relished the marks and found I could paint in thin layers more readily than on canvas. I produced many figure paintings based on sketches I had made in my sketchbook and named the the ‘studio’ series as I had moved to a new work space.
The figure is viewed from below and is caught in movement, framed by the structure of the room above. Her receding form darkens and there is detail in the face. Rich green, rust and cream colour the piece.
Framed in a dark grey frame, glazed, ready to hang. All works available unframed on request.
