Take Me to Burbank
oil on wood
42 x 59.5 x 2cm
Take Me to Burbank is painted from a photo taken during a walk after heavy snowfall February 2021. Near our house there is a 1960s designed housing estate of large expensive houses with open front gardens, mature trees and clipped hedges. It has a surreal feel to it and our walk lead us through it, past these grand scots pine trees and shaped evergreens, the ground covered in deep snow.
I love the colours and sounds after snow; everything muffled, colours muted, greyed. I used my favourite limited palette of four colours to paint, drawn in by the dark inky trees with a pinkish sky backdrop. The density of fir trees and their heavy darkness always appeals.
Painted on a cradled wood panel, plain wood edges, ready to hang.
