The Frontal Altier
Pastel on paper, mounted
40 x 30 cm
Pastel drawing of a news item of an oil tanker explosion in the Gulf of Oman. My inspiration comes from the image only, I make no political statement in drawing the scene. I wanted to capture a fleeting image seen on tv to allow us to look more closely and consider the skill of the camera operator and the tragic beauty coming from the colours. I was drawn to the image because of the colour, exaggerated by the quality of the news report and their complementary placements. Tv has been a constant inspiration since learning a drawing practice from Jeffrey Camp where he encouraged drawing from the tv to quicken the hand.
Drawn on Fontaine paper, mounted in neutral off-white.
