We Walked To Clear Our Heads
Mixed media on gesso, framed.
40 x 50 x 3 cm
Created from a poignant memory of a walk in the woods, I have drawn on the symbolism of the day with a spontaneous, layered drawing on a painted background depicting the view of my companion finding a path through the trees.
The cold and grey light of a winter walk inspired the drawing and I used quick mark making for the network of twigs and branches, both in the canopy overhead and littering the forest floor. Coloured in cool, pale shades of pink, turquoise and green on a handmade gesso panel.
Gesso is a traditional ground made from glue and chalk whiting which is painted onto a prepared panel in thin layers, dried, and sanded back. The panel has natural pits and raises which I’ve used to add texture and interest to the surface.
The edges are raw therefore I have framed the artwork in a natural wooden floater frame, ready to hang.
