World’s Aflame
oil on canvas
60 x 40 cm
World’s Aflame was painted from a photo taken of a TV news article by CNN in January 2020 this image of the forest fires in Australia depicts nature at its most brutal. I’d like to argue that there is also a curious beauty in the myriad of colours created by the billowing smoke contrasting with the rich forest and it was this that inspired me. Working through the pinks, purples, greys and yellows which are constantly morphing into each other was a joy.
We are so often fed distressing images via the tv and social media channels, that I wanted to draw attention to the concern that we don’t become immune to the stark reality of theses stories and therefore the idea of making a permanent ‘still’ on a canvas taken from a news reel is of interest to me.
Unframed standard canvas with neatly painted edges, ready to hang.
