Continuing to work backwards through my photos of the sea, these are a selection of the 100s from 2021. I was using a dreadful GoPro at the time, which bowed the horizon line, a trope which has entered my work from time to time. I’m drawn to any kind of visual extreme, bending reality into something unusual, exaggerated, or abstracted. I can recognised my pursuit of texture and colour in these photos, the pinkish ones particularly are referenced in paintings made a couple of years later, as I didn’t start painting the sea in earnest until 2023.
