In an attempt to realise the worth of some of the photos I take of the sea, I have decided to publish a yearly overview of what I consider the best.
I use some as source material (less and less lately) but there are a lot which don’t inform enough for this, yet appeal to me in their own right; I tend to lean towards the less defined, which are more like my experience of being in the water, than sharp clear photos. Fog is a favourite.
All these are dreadful quality, taken by dreadful cameras, but I enjoy their graininess – they look more like a drawing or painting. I’m not a photographer in any sense, I don’t know what I’m taking half the time, as I’m trying not to drown, but I do hit upon some happy accidents. Here are those of 2024:
