I often am asked about the reason skeletons are part of my seascapes, so here are some of the things I think about:

A raw response to a crisis in the family; this is how they first began, although I had painted one a few months before. I had seen it in the folds of paint and picked it out. Maybe it was a premonition.

A reminder of a universal truth of all things; all things change.

A reminder to live now and to live well.

Hurting nature is hurting ourselves. A portent for the planet and for the human race. The sea is a vast unknown, an immediate threat, the most beautiful, wildest and unexplored part of the planet.

A desire to be in the sea, forever. I love it.

To succumb to the power and importance of nature and to let it rule our decisions, rather than our attempt to rule it.

Nature comes first.
