I often am asked about the reason skeletons are part of my seascapes, so here are some of the things I think about:
A raw response to a crisis in the family; this is how they first began, although I had painted one a few months before. I had seen it in the folds of paint and picked it out. Maybe it was a premonition.
A reminder of a universal truth of all things; all things change. A fact some find hard to accept, and it is something I observe closely through meditation.
A reminder to live now and to live well. This is why I see them as joyful, I think they are enjoying the waves, like I do.
They are all of us- they’re without gender, race, or status.
Hurting nature is hurting ourselves. A portent for the planet and for the human race. The sea is a vast unknown, the most beautiful, threatening, wildest and unexplored part of the planet.
A desire to be in the sea, forever. I love it.
To succumb to the power and importance of nature and to let it rule our decisions, rather than our attempt to rule it, which could be the end of us.
Nature comes first.
