North Sea II
oil on braced wood panel
30 x 40cm
2023
This is one of the first dives into painting the sea from the photos of waves I’d been taking while swimming. My love of swimming in the sea is down to the waves; the sound is hypnotic, their power is thrilling and a little scary. My mind is emptied by their swell and relentlessness, nothing makes me happier. All this I am striving to encapsulate in paint.
Often I paint straight after swimming, it helps me really feel my way into my interpretation. As the North Sea is very green and the sky often violet at dawn the painting began there with these colours in mind.
I embarked on painting a pair using these same colours, when halfway through I realised the horizons exactly matched. From then on I painted them together so they made a small diptych. North Sea II is the second half.
I will consider any reasonable offer for the two paintings. Please contact me here to make an offer.
