Violet Hour
oil on wood
30 x 40 x 2cm
2026
Small study in shades of ultramarine, looking at an impending wave. Violet hour is usually described as after sunset, before real darkness sets in, but in my experience it also happens just before dawn. When swimming during the colder months, I often arrive at the beach at this time, where everything is bathed in muted tones, especially when the sky is shrouded in a blanket of cloud.
Violet Hour sits between the known and unknown, life and death, or reality and dreams.
Painted on a braced wood panel, with clean wooden edges, and is ready to hang.
