After making several large landscape, which included a left leaning wave with a ship on the horizon, I wanted to paint some with the ship as a central feature. When swimming in the North Sea they are a common sight, drifting North or South, almost merging with the sky.
I used diluted oil which allowed the medium to hold the brushwork, my imagined facets mirroring the complicated surface of moving water.
