Experiment in ultramarine, as a recoil from a dirty blue I had been using. It is satisfying to go quite dark but retaining an element of joy and beauty. Several mixes of my usual palette including ultramarine have rather unwittingly given this painting a atmosphere of dusk; this wasn’t intentional. I intended to add some light after this stage but found the painting held together well as it was, and so stopped here.
Oil on wood panel, braced with deep edged pine. Edges are bare wood, ready to hang.
