Stiffkey II is part of a series of drawings based on my experience of the salt mashes in North Norfolk.
Stiffkey marsh is a magical environment with expansive skies, creeks, rivers, bridges, sea lavender, samphire, sea holly, terns, gulls, seals, egrets, rippled sand, mud and space. It is a mile to the sea but the tide swallows the whole land at times, filling the creeks and flooding the paths. I have spent a lot of time there and these drawings are informed by my history and knowledge of the landscape which I know like the back of my hand.
Made using charcoal and compressed charcoal on The Langton hot pressed watercolour paper 300 gsm, fixed.
