The Search
Oil on canvas
66 x 99 x 4 cm including frame.
The Search was painted after the Beast from the East blew in, from a memory of a lone figure walking through a snowfall, the surrounding tree branches laden heavily with snow are drooping down under the weight. I decided to use a very limited palette concentrating on using blues and greens almost monochromatically which emulates the greyed out landscape we see when snow is falling. Full of narrative the painting captures a moment, like a still of a story and we are left wondering what is around the corner…
I thoroughly enjoyed painting snow for the first time here, even after my initial reservations. I was worried about making a cheesy Christmas card snow painting but I felt like this was the composition I was waiting for and I like the urbanity contrasting with nature’s beauty.
Painted on a standard professionally stretched canvas in a french grey floater frame, ready to hang.
