Description
Uncontrollable Wild
oil on braced wood panel
45.5 x 61 x 3cm
2025
This painting was inspired by a text written by Chelsea Steinauer-Scudder, who has expertly captured all I have ever wanted to say about our relationship with nature, in one perfect essay, in that she references our intrinsic fear of the unknown, our deluded perception of dominance over the natural world, and how myths of sea serpents encapsulates our relationship to the wild. It feels as though she has taken the words right out of my mouth, words I am incapable of capturing as succinctly as she has done (which is why I paint).
The sea in the painting is softly lit, the wave at its peak almost merging with the sky. A deep depth is revealed underneath and within all this is a knot of serpents speaking to my sense of unease at the state of the world, the climate and the sea.
Painted on a professionally braced wood panel, with clean natural wood edges, unframed but ready to hang. If you would like me to frame it for you please contact me.
