oil on wood panel
29 x 42 x 2cm
I have been embarking on making paintings from news reports on climate change again and I wanted to record the floods in my beloved Kerala, as it is somewhere close to my heart having visited there in 2017. Drawing attention to the plight of the residents of the area is important to me.
Obversely I find the colours and contrast of these images so interesting to paint; capturing the light on the surface of the water and the shadows of trees is a challenge, as is retaining the gravity of the image while achieving the atmosphere. As usual I used my core four colours with one extra added in this instance.
The painting is oil on a professionally made wood panel, braced at the back 2cm deep, with neatly painted edges and ready to hang.
